E-commerce (selling
products over the Web) generally requires a number of services
not included in basic web hosting accounts:
- A secure server to process customer data
- An electronic "shopping cart" to collect information
about a customer's order
- A way to get securely transmit the order and credit
card information from the Web server to the merchant.
- A secure certificate to house secure pages under your
own domain name
We offer secure servers, secure certificates and shopping
cart programs you can use to create your product pages and
process credit card data. You'll also need either a merchant
credit card service or PayPal account to accept online orders.
Customers like as much security as possible, but each layer
of security includes a cost to the merchant (you). We'll
help you customize the plan that's right for you.
These products can be combined with the FTP,
Basic, Advanced
or Webmaster
accounts to create a secure online store for your site.
Americart Shopping Cart
Free setup, $20 a month
The AmeriCart shopping cart service allows you to create
catalog pages using special HTML tags for items and shopping
cart functions. When a shopper clicks the "checkout" button
they are sent to Americart's secure server to take their
credit card and shipping info. Americart then emails the
order to you with partial credit card info, and allows you
to login to their secure server to retrieve the rest of
the credit card info to fill the order. Many users like
this service because it's affordable, avoids the use of
complex CGI programs, and can handle credit card data securely
without requiring clients to purchase additional products
to encrypt e-mailed credit card info. It also doesn't require
you to have an SSL server, since orders are encrypted with
AmeriCart's server. FYI, AmeriCart doesn't have access to
the credit card data - part of each number is stored on
their servers, the remainder is emailed to you. Click

SSL Secure Server
$30 setup, $15 a month
SSL, which stands for Secure Sockets Layer, is a protocol
that allows traffic between a user's browser and the Web
server to be encrypted, so it cannot be intercepted. An
SSL-enabled page uses a URLs that begins with https:, rather
than http:.

Our standard SSL offerings allow you to use a URL such as
https://commerce.pair.com/yourname/ for your secure area.
The non-secure pages continue to operate under www.yourname.com.

SSL Secure Certificate
From $49 a year
In order to have SSL under your domain, such as https://www.yourname.com/catalog,
you must obtain a secure server certificate from a Certificate
Authority.
Through our partner Pair Networks, we can offer 128-bit
SSL Encryption certificates for as low as $49 a year - a
huge discount over Verisign,
which charges $349 for the first year and $249 a year thereafter.

for more information and pricing.

FYI, there is no advantage from a security point-of-view
in having your own secure certificate over using one of
ours. It's simply an issue of what the Web address for the
secure pages will be.
